Innovation for Social Entrepreneurs

The types of innovation that profitable enterprises engage in can be adapted to fit the needs for public charities and private operating foundations as well.  We find 7 distinct types of innovation as related to strategic position in the non-profit world.



1) Business Model - i.e. Al Gore, The Climate Reality Project,
2) Marketing - i.e. Susan G. Komen
3) Organizational - i.e. Teach for America
4) Process - i.e. Help USA
5) Product - i.e. Greater Boston Food Bank
6) Service - i.e TMC Texas Migrant Council
7) Supply chain - i.e.  The Metropolitan Boston Housing Partnership

Each example in the above categories represent companies that innovated in a specific area of focus providing a unique strategic position. This not only creates value but can also be a major advantage.
