Consistent Motivation for Social Entrepreneurs

Entrepreneurial Motivation

Having the willingness and mindset to tackle a strategic goal is the first step, but what about taking the next course of action? There are 3 factors that lead to consistent goal-directed behavior.

1) Self-efficacy

2) Cognitive motivation
3) Tolerance for ambiguity

Self-efficacy describes having the confidence to complete the task-at-hand. It can be improved by mastery, role-modeling and social persuasion via interpersonal interactions with positive influences.

High cognition related to seeking, acquiring, thinking, and reflecting. Whereby, low cognition is related to experiences, assumptions and luck. Entrepreneurs need to develop high cognition.

Also, one must understand and adapt to ambiguity as a necessary market dynamic. It can actually be perceived as desirable, because flow and flexibility allows for positive change and therefor opportunity. However, to take advantage, one must have the ability to decide quickly with limited information.
