Best Entrepreneurial Behaviors

Best Entrepreneurial Behaviors

Social Entrepreneurs bring specific skills and assets to the foundations and non-profits which they run.  These 4 skills create the best chances for making a mission-related impact and assist with reaching even the highest strategic goals.

1) Confidence in the goal
2) Interpersonal relationship skills
3) Social capital
4) Risk tolerance

Hopefully, possessing good confidence and interpersonal skills may sound familiar. However, possessing social capital, means having quality and diverse connections with other people who can assist in realizing the goal.  The benefits include being better informed, more creativity, more efficiency, better problem solving, saving time and fostering cooperation.

Being risk tolerant requires examining criteria and deciding how to best leverage the risk by eliminating, transferring or assuming it. Social Entrepreneurs need to ask themselves a series of questions:

How high are the risks?

What are the rewards?
What are the consequences?
Were all the complex elements of the decision considered?

The keys to answering the questions lie in applying multiple perspectives (social capital), integrating those perspectives and taking a broader, deeper view of the decision. Lastly, be wary of perceived risk, (usually an emotional response) because it often drives decisions. Better to be factual and base strategic decisions upon objective risk.
